Who we are
The University of Florida’s Beta Gamma chapter of Pi Sigma Alpha was founded in 1950 to “stimulate scholarship and intelligent interest in political science.” We have over fifty members and are open to any undergraduate student who has achieved high levels of academic achievement both in political science and all around.
The organization provides undergraduates with opportunities to get involved in the community and obtain information about the political science department, available internships, current political issues and many more valuable resources. We also offer social events in order to network with other political science students and foster political discussions.
What we do
· Hold meetings every other Wednesday at 7:00PM in Anderson 101.
· Guest speakers that speak about post-graduate opportunities, political events, internship opportunities, political oriented degree programs, study abroad political science opportunities and many more politically oriented subjects.
· Promote political science discussions.
· Promote political awareness on campus and in the Gainesville community.
· Graduate school and law school information.
· Socials in which you get to meet and speak with other students who have an interest in politics.
· Opportunities to publish your articles or work from class in our newsletter and on our online blog.
· Community Service opportunities such as participating in Relay for Life.
· Plan and hold political events on campus.
· Document screenings of politically oriented subjects such as nuclear weapons (Countdown to Zero documentary screening co-hosted with Global Zero).
· End of the year banquet to celebrate the initiation of new members and honor them with their honors cord, certificate and pin.

Pi Sigma Alpha, the National Political Science Honor Society, is the only honor society for college students of political science and government in the United States. Pi Sigma Alpha is a member of the Association of College Honor Societies (ACHS) and is designated as a "Specialized, Upper-Division" society by ACHS.
There are now almost 700 chapters of Pi Sigma Alpha located on college and university campuses in every state of the United States and in Guam.
Pi Sigma Alpha was founded in 1920 at the University of Texas for the purpose of bringing together students and faculty interested in the study of government and politics. Pi Sigma Alpha can now be found in every state of the U.S. and numbers over 658 chapters in total (634 currently active). Pi Sigma Alpha is the third largest (in size) member of ACHS; an organization linking Pi Sigma Alpha to its 66 sister academic honor societies.
According to Pi Sigma Alpha's Articles of Incorporation some of the purposes of the honors society are:
· to promote worthwhile curricular and extracurricular activities related to political science;
· to stimulate scholarship and intelligent interest in political science;
· to organize and conduct national and international seminars, conferences, research, discussion groups, study groups, and publications in the area of political science;
· to engage in all such activities and to take such other measures as may be necessary or appropriate to further the foregoing purposes.
